In one hand and out the other. Technical solutions found – news at 10:30. Motto of the week – im looking for one. After long struggles, found a compromise solution until software developers find a better one. Sibelius is working in an integrated manner, which means when I open a score [...]

VMWare Wins and Works (for now)
…my vote as a music tech superdelegate ended up going to VMWare as a solution for running a music sample server on the same machine as your sequencer or score writing package. I purchased a license for VMWare and Vienna Ensemble 3 last evening. It eliminates spending lots of money for either another machine [...]
VMWare and VSL
This has become sort of a geeky blog and I apologize for the focus on musical technology lately. Once in about 6-8 years the musical writing platforms I use go through a major refresh, and its a constant shuffle and bit tweaking to find the optimal solution for working. Experiment Monstors

Experimented with individual instances of Vienna Ensemble 2 and found I could only load 4 instances of VE. The 5th would cause havoc in the UI components of XP. Theoretically, each instance can hold 2.5 G, so the maximum you could hold using 32bit [...]
Toil and Trouble
Monday.
The weekend in deep-tech-mode, still not out of the woods yet. I know you are laughing.
DP is up and running. Very disappointing on what you get with this product. I was expecting a lot more. The only benefit is that it is rather lightweight in features so if you are [...]
Composing Status Update #42
Composing? Whats that?
More twiddling and installing this week. The additional tool of adding in Altiverb went surprizingly welll, and I have it working on a Logic Node to my MBP via a Gigabit Ethernet crossover cable – very cool indeed. Clustering that works.
However, as I get closer to a finalized [...]
Stripping the Gear
Hello. ComposerBastard here…
Got the RMA’s out the door, and returned two drives back to the store. Turned around and yes – got the Altiverb ona download. Receiving DP in a few days – competitive upgrade. New high speed RAID drives today. That should about do it with the exception [...]
Bootslowmonstors go byebye
In my preparation for returning some drives to the store, I removed them from my case last evening. I had these two drives on RAID 0, so I re-partitioned and erased the contents. Once I took them out and restarted the DAW, the slow boot went away. I have no idea why.
New [...]
