Another day wasted. Back to back meetings and day gig activities right up into the evening when I went to get some exercise. Will try and get back on track tomorrow. Listened again to the usual trio of rock, pop and alternative singers. Thinking maybe some songs for cello and piano, or just plain songs. [...]

Sleeper
Uneventful weekend. Mostly listened to new music – Holly Brook, Vienna Teng, Beth Waters. Opens up a whole new world, but unsure where its going. Too much going on in general. Hope to pick it up again on Wednesday.
Composing Status Update #86
A scattered week, I failed for the first time to write any posts on progress and general thoughts. Too wrapped up in day gig materials, but did manage to squeeze in a few pleasant evenings at the keys working on the opening of the cello piece. I’m continuing my survey of American female rock / pop [...]
Composing Status Update #85
A week of fluid creativity. I began heading into this piece by laying out the score in Sibelius and working on the opening. I love the vagueness and unsettlement of it. Its going to be a slow write though, as I investigate the exact proportions of the rhythm and harmonic movement…trying to keep away from [...]

Saturated in thoughts
Rain maybe? Well, its a bit misconstrued to think this is creativity or anything – just thoughts that churn in the back of my cerebellum on what this piece is and where its going. The opening is totally vague, and I want it that way. The real trick is the timing in it – do [...]
Avoiding
Laid out the beginning of the cello work this evening – maybe about 8 measures of work…structurally…its important as I move through this to avoid the symmetry which is so easy to clash into and pattern out evenly. Tension and ambiguity needs to be contained but continued…and it’s tricky…very tricky let me tell you…that deep in [...]
Burn
A total burn of a day scrambling in the day gig, exercise and more exercise. Lucky tomorrow we are over the early week caloric waste and can start setting up and driving this baby of a piece home.
Short and sweet tonight.
Keep me out of Vienna
The weekend brought me to the piano for a while, but then I heard a challenge from somewhere or other to revisit that old composer Gustav Mahler and at least give it another go at listening to his Symphonies…since everyone is always talk talk talking about how wonderful they are, and how every orchestra on [...]
