Short and sweet composerly evening. Looked at secondary tetrachords – 4-note sets that are embedded in a series of common hexachords within the octad that I am working with. Why? Well, it can add as secondary harmony and contrast to what I have in the main tetrachord I am working with for this movement. A few melodic surprises. Nothing big. Have all this stuff written down someplace or other. actually, its endless – the permutation. So, this session is all play – twiddling permutations and finding contours that project the same general sound. Pick a few. Improvising in a jazzy way at the piano. All this to be used in a loose middle section that is more melodic and lyrical than the first and last section of this movement.
Thinking arch ABCBA. Thinking trisectionally – ABCABC. Unsure which. Varied repetition but with real variants. Shortened recurring materials maybe?
I’m pretty sure I are close to the end of this play period. Thinking and writing here is much just for my own therapy and history. Gets boring, I know. But encouragining.
